Project Highlight:
Lead Extract Disposal at FANGCHENG Port

Client: A bulk carrier giant.

Challenge: Disposal of lead extract residue and bilge water from cargo hold cleaning.
When this project was first presented, the client had exhausted all available options through their regular vendors and agents, all of whom refused to handle the disposal due to the complexity and regulatory hurdles. However, we accepted the challenge, recognizing how critical it was for the owner to safely and legally dispose of both lead extract residue and bilge water.

Our team explored multiple options to find a solution that aligned with strict environmental and port regulations. After thorough research and coordination:

  • Bilge Water Disposal: We arranged specialized trucks to handle the safe transport and disposal of bilge water.

  • Residue Management: For the lead extract sludge, we obtained the necessary permits from regulatory bodies to transfer it via shore cranes at the port. Flexible containers were used to ensure safe and efficient handling during offloading operations.

This project demanded extensive collaboration with the port authorities and adherence to MARPOL standards to secure certification and ensure compliance with international and local regulations.

Outcome:

The project was completed successfully, ensuring the safe disposal of both the bilge water and lead extract residue without disrupting vessel operations. The client was highly satisfied with our ability to resolve this complex issue, proving that no challenge is too great for us to overcome.
Our ability to navigate through regulatory frameworks, secure permissions, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders exemplifies the high level of expertise and commitment we bring to every project.

Project Highlight:
Clinker Cleaning Operation at Bangladesh Port

Client: A bulk carrier giant.

Challenge: Cleaning of clinker residue from cargo holds under severe weather conditions

This project involved the cleaning of five cargo holds carrying clinker, a critical but challenging cargo known to leave behind stubborn cement residues. Our task was to complete the cleaning within three days to ensure the vessel could meet its strict time charter schedule.

Operations Timeline:
  • Day 1:
    1. Dry Cleaning: A team of 25 shore crew members boarded the vessel to manually clean the clinker and remove loose cement residues from the holds.
    2. Chemical Wash: The crew applied specialized cleaning agents to dissolve cement particles stuck to the hold’s bulkheads and inner structures.
  • Day 2 (Morning):
    1. Sea Water Wash: The next step involved rinsing the holds with seawater to clear out any chemical residues, preparing for the final cleaning stage.
  • Day 2 (Afternoon):
    1. Weather Challenge: High winds, continuous rainfall, and heavy swells disrupted operations, forcing the bilge water disposal barge to cast off from the vessel. The weather posed a significant challenge to the operation.
  • Day 2 – Day 3:
    1. High-Pressure Water Cleaning: Despite the adverse conditions, the crew relentlessly continued with high-pressure water cleaning. Working in shifts around the clock to meet the three-day timeline, the team ensured that every trace of clinker was removed.

Additional Measures:

  • Arranged for bilge water disposal in compliance with environmental regulations to handle the water used in washing the holds.
  • Coordinated with port authorities to adapt the plan as needed amidst the extreme weather.
